Tilburg, November 11th, 2024 – Early October, MTD was requested to provide immediate support for the Gelre Hospital in Apeldoorn after E. coli contamination was detected in the local water network. The MTD team quickly mobilized to have a water infrastructure on-site within 24 hours, so reliable water could be provided and essential hospital services could keep on running.
To meet the hospital’s needs, we created a bypass for the hospital’s own water buffer. A temporary water infrastructure was installed that ran parallel to the existing one, so all systems could keep functioning normally. The infrastructure consisted of two large buffer bags, sterilized piping, pumps, and UV filtration systems, to ensure clean water at all times. As space was limited and daily water demand higher than our two buffer bags could provide, our team set up continuous refill services through local partners and tanker trucks.
Key highlights of our work included:
- 💧 Installing a full temporary water infrastructure to replace compromised local supply
- 💧 Ensuring all water met stringent hospital standards with ongoing sampling and quality testing
- 💧 Partnering with local partners to keep buffer tanks filled and systems running continuously, providing 170 m3 water a day
In times like these, reliable access to clean water is more than a convenience—it’s essential to healthcare. We’re thankful for the client’s trust and honored to have supported the Gelre Hospital in maintaining safe conditions for patients and staff alike.
