In May 2022, MTD USA proudly served as the sole temporary water partner for the inaugural Formula One Grand Prix at the Miami International Autodrome, held at the Hard Rock Stadium. The event attracted over 300,000 visitors, marking the first race in a 10-year partnership.
MTD’s international team of 13 experts from five different continents worked tirelessly for six weeks to set up a comprehensive temporary water infrastructure for the event. The scope included:
The organizers of the Formula One Miami Grand Prix enlisted MTD’s expertise to manage the entire temporary water overlay for the race venue. This included providing water connections for VIP and team hospitality areas, toilet clusters, food and beverage concessions, and the medical centre, ensuring consistent and safe water supply across all event zones. Additionally, MTD was tasked with installing 36 Phil refill stations to support the event’s goal of reducing single-use plastic waste.
As a first-time event at a newly constructed circuit, the project required rapid adaptation and precise planning to meet the evolving scope of work. Coordinating water infrastructure for a large-scale venue spread across the Miami International Autodrome, including the Hard Rock Stadium, presented logistical challenges, particularly when connecting multiple VIP areas, kitchens, and public facilities. Ensuring that all installations adhered to local regulations and maintained safe drinking water standards was also critical, requiring on-site monitoring and testing by a local water lab.
MTD successfully delivered a comprehensive and reliable water system for the Miami Grand Prix, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of over 300,000 attendees. The 36 Phil stations provided a convenient and eco-friendly way for visitors to stay hydrated, contributing to the event’s sustainability goals. Despite the complexity and scale of the project, MTD’s expertise and international collaboration ensured a seamless execution, making the first Miami Grand Prix a resounding success and setting the stage for future events in the 10-year partnership.
