Where there’s water, there’s MTD – SAIL 2025

At the end of August, MTD provided water for the 10th edition of SAIL 2025, celebrating the 750th anniversary of the city of Amsterdam (NL). Visitors, crew, and ships from around the world came together to celebrate nautical history and diverse cultures, a festival for all ages!

MTD ensured the entire event was fully supplied with water: safe Phil’s for drinking, catering support, greywater system for toilets etc.
At an event that’s all about water, MTD was obviously on board.

But our role goes beyond supplying water.
We always try to use water with care. During the SAIL Summit breakout session on water, we shared how this mindset translates into practice and how the future of drinking water depends on rethinking our relationship with it.

At SAIL 2025 we approach this in three ways:
1️⃣ Less drinking water: flushing pipes only when the water reaches a certain temperature. This ensures water safety while avoiding unnecessary waste.
2️⃣ Alternative sources: flushing toilets with water from the IJ (river).
3️⃣ Smart measurement: understanding where the big drops of water are used, so we can identify opportunities to save.

Together with policymakers and pioneers, we explored how to measure smarter, act faster, and reconnect with water.
