Held in December 2014, the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP20) brought representatives from 190 countries to Lima, Peru, where MTD was tasked with setting up a comprehensive water infrastructure system for the 90,000 m² temporary conference venue.
MTD partnered with GL Events to provide a complete water infrastructure solution for the COP20 conference in Lima. Our services included:
GL Events, the client overseeing the event infrastructure, requested MTD to install and manage a reliable water system for the extensive 90,000 m² temporary tent setup. This included connecting drinking water facilities and wastewater disposal systems to accommodate thousands of delegates, environmental leaders, and media personnel attending the conference. The client also needed advanced water improvement units to guarantee that all drinking water met international safety standards.
Working within a relatively short time frame to set up a large-scale infrastructure in the heart of Lima was a logistical challenge. The scale of the event, combined with the importance of ensuring a continuous and safe water supply for representatives from 190 countries, required precise planning and rapid execution. Moreover, the temporary nature of the venue meant that the system had to be fully operational yet easily removable after the conference concluded. Managing water quality in a temporary setup, especially in a new environment, also demanded careful monitoring and testing.
MTD successfully delivered a comprehensive water system that supported the needs of thousands of delegates and visitors throughout the two-week event. Our water improvement units provided consistent access to safe drinking water, ensuring the health and well-being of all participants. Despite the short lead time and the complexity of setting up in a bustling capital, this collaboration highlighted MTD’s commitment to supporting global sustainability initiatives and providing innovative water solutions for international events.
