الخطوة التالية في معالجة المياه: MTD وNTP توحد جهودهما في زوارت كروس

Tilburg, July 17th, 2024 - In addition to a water treatment pilot with our Silver Label Unit, MTD will collaborate with NTP to conduct additional tests at the Zwarte Cross festival to remove micropollutants, such as traces of medicines and personal health products, from the wastewater. This collaboration is an important step in our ongoing efforts to provide sustainable and innovative water solutions for projects worldwide.

Large events, such as Zwarte Cross, temporarily generate large amounts of wastewater, which can lead to the overloading of wastewater treatment plants. These peak loads pose a risk to water quality and can negatively impact vulnerable nature reserves. With tighter European regulations coming into effect in 2027, it is essential to develop effective measures to mitigate these peak loads. To comply with these regulations, MTD is applying advanced filtration and reverse osmosis (RO) technology in our mobile Silver Label water treatment unit, part of the pilot at Zwarte Cross. The treated festival water can then be returned to nature to restore the local water balance or reused for flushing toilets at the festival, for example.

NTP adds an additional treatment step to the concentrate stream with their innovative mobile in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) unit. This unit uses an ozone-based technique to further reduce micropollutants in the wastewater. By adding ozone to the wastewater stream in a special way, we can remove up to 70-80% of the contaminants before the water reaches the Water Board’s wastewater treatment plants. This reduces the load on the treatment plants and contributes to a cleaner environment. This technology has previously been successfully tested on WWTP effluent and shows a high efficiency in removing micropollutants.

The goal of this pilot is to demonstrate that it is possible to significantly break down micropollutants to a great extent already at the festival itself and improve overall water quality. With this pilot, we aim to create a model that can not only inspire other festivals but also other sectors, regions, and cities.

MTD is proud of our collaboration with NTP and our joint commitment to a more sustainable future. Together with the workgroup of 18 agencies and innovations within the pilot project at Zwarte Cross, we are taking an important step towards a circular water chain for events and an important step towards a cleaner and more sustainable world.
